We’ve been excited about the launch of Clinton Street Baking Company months before its doors opened. So it’s pretty evident, this review was one we looked most forward to. Before we get to the food, be rest assured Clinton Street LOVES their butter and they’re not afraid to use it in outrageously generous portions. Which is why this is the only restaurant so far that needed TWO visits to sum it up for you. Mind you, we’re not complaining. The richness of their food is what makes it so delicious and worth the trip.
The ambience and decor was simple. Nothing too fancy or extravagant and the seating was generously spaced out. They had a huge chalkboard covered wall, where all the specials were clearly mentioned (PS, They’ve got free wifi too). The servers were beyond friendly! They made us feel so comfortable and helped us out while choosing our dishes. They were also very energetic and cheerful; adding to the positive vibe Clinton Street gave out.
We tried their special Pecan Pie. It was delicious and perfectly crunchy. The pecans blended together with the caramel gave an amazing flavor and texture to the pie. We would totally come back for more.
Having heard a lot about their infamous Fried Chicken and Waffles, we have been dying to try them! We’ve never tasted a combination like that before and we were so eager to try it out. Needless to say, it ticked all our boxes and now we see what the whole fuss is about! We can’t put into words how brilliant this humble dish was. The textures and flavors in our mouths made us go weak in the knees. It’s like the comfort food we’ve never had. You can’t go to Clinton Street and not try this dish. It would be an absolute sin!
Another legendary dish served by Clinton Street is their pancakes. We always thought a pancake is something no one could ever go wrong with. It will always be delicious with a drizzle of maple syrup, or berries or chocolate. But we can now honestly say that the pancakes served here is on a completely different league as compared to any other pancakes we’ve tried. It was light and fluffy and had a perfectly crisp outer coating. They’re pancakes are served with warm maple butter. And you have 3 toppings to chose from – Wild Maine Blueberry, Banana Walnut or Chocolate Chunk. We opted for the chocolate chunk topping and it was incredibly-cant-put-the-fork-down-delicious!
Lastly, we opted for the Banana Chocolate Cream Pie which was caramelized bananas, Venezuelan chocolate, bourbon vanilla cream and graham cracker crust. Let us warn you, this pie is heavy so it needs to be shared by two at least. And even though we loved the bananas with the caramel, we felt that the chocolate was a bit too hard as it added an unpleasant crunch. Melting the chocolate a bit would have made this pie a ten on ten.
For drinks we tried the Cappuccino and the Salted Caramel Shake. The shake was absolutely perfect. The saltiness in the shake cut through the richness of the caramel – Divine!
The menu at Clinton Street is huge, and there is still a lot more to try that has totally captivated us like the buttermilk biscuit sandwich and the fried green tomatoes. We can’t wait to try the rest out, and can’t wait to hear about your first experience at Clinton Street! Don’t forget to let us know 🙂 #HappyFeasting
