Last night we were fortunate enough to get invited to the First American Gastro pub in Dubai located at the H hotel called The Black Lion.
It’s barely a week since its launch and this restaurant knows how to win hearts! We entered The Black Lion and we could automatically feel atmosphere of a New York style restaurant. It was buzzing with people, the decor was very modern and classy and the dim lighting added to the ambience.
When the menus were handed over to us we were completely overwhelmed with the choices. Everything looked so good; we wanted to try it all. At this point the restaurant’s General Manager, James, helped us a lot! He told us what he would vouch for and what his favorites were and he was SOO RIGHT!
For Appetizers, we tried the Shrimp Cocktail which is perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp served in a cocktail glass with a Bloody Mary Sauce with a avocado puree on the bottom. It was fresh and light and packed with flavor. It was a perfect dish to kick start our meal.
We also had the Short Rib Hash baked perfectly and served with fried quail eggs. We loved how the quail eggs were served runny and loved the tenderness of the ribs. It was certainly not enough for us; we were tempted to order another one for mains as well!
For a bit of freshness, we decided to order a salad as well; we decided to opt for the Roast Beets and Goat’s cheese salad with freekeh and radish. The combination of goat’s cheese with the beets and radish was a perfect match. It was fresh and very pleasant.
For mains we tried the Lamb Hot Pot. This was probably our dish of the day! It was served piping hot and the lamb was cooked to tender perfection! The lamb was served with squash and sweet potato and that added amazing texture to this dish. Slow cooked lamb will always be a win in our eyes so there’s no way we wouldn’t have a clean plate.
We also had the Deluxe Fish Pie filled with Atlantic cod, shrimp and crab. We loved the parmesan crust on this dish and the generous quantity of the seafood in that dish (perfect for seafood lovers)
We finally reached dessert! And with the options overwhelming us yet again, we sought the help of James to help make a decision for us. We tried the Baked Vanilla Cheesecake served with Salted Caramel Crumble. The cheesecake was really dense but absolutely delicious. And the crumb on the cheesecake is definitely unique. We are suckers for salted caramel so we were in dessert paradise devouring this dish.
We also had the Banana Eton Mess which is meringue, banana, bourbon, pecan and maple. This dessert was really light compared to the cheesecake. Eton Mess with banana was a first for us since we usually have it with berries; nevertheless it was definitely a hit!
Our entire meal was such a delight. What added to making this meal such a memorable experience was the service and the vibe that The Black Lion had to offer. From the music to the food, everything was on point. There’s no doubt in our minds that we’re definitely going back for more. (especially for the Short Rib Hash and the Cheesecake)
