Restaurant Review – Chimes

Established in 2008, tucked away in the bustling streets of Al Barsha, lies a restaurant that masters the flavors of the far east. Chimes produces some of the best Asian dishes according to us at really affordable prices. Not only are their dishes tasteful and authentic, but once you tuck into them you’ll be captivated by the aromas and flavors of each dish that keep you coming back for more.
For our tasting last week at Chimes, we were overtly thrilled to try out the Annual Chimes Crab Festival that will be going on all throughout October.
Since there were two of us and we have appetites that are unspeakable of, we decided to opt for a starter, along with two gigantic crab dishes. To begin with we ordered a very refreshing orange juice and pink lemonade that is perfect for this weather.
For appetizers, we decided to opt for the Chimes Starter Platter which consisted of a selection of Spring Rolls, Fish Cakes and Prawn Tempura served with a sweet chilli and peanut sauce dip. Our favorite among all of these (surprisingly) were the spring rolls since they were the crispiest spring rolls we’ve ever had. The prawn tempura was lightly battered yet crispy and delicious!
For our crab dishes, we decided to opt for one of the best sellers and signature dish of Chimes – the Singaporean Chilli Crab. Our quest for a perfect Singaporean Chilli Crab ends right here with this marvelous dish. The dish consists of succulent mud crab in a sweet chilli sauce that is prepared at chimes itself. The dish was bursting with flavor and each bite made us almost cry! (It was that good) There is no doubt that we would be coming back for this dish!
Our second crab dish was the Pot Roast Crab which is Pot Roasted Mud Crab in a roasted garlic butter sauce. This dish unlike the first we tried enabled the flavor of the crab to shine through. We loved the simplicity of the sauce and the perfect texture of the crab.
What added to our enjoyment of these dishes were the sides of sticky rice and a unique south east asian bun that is used to soak up the sauce of the crab dish. Absolutely delicious!
To wrap up our delightful tasting we opted for the Thai classic sticky rice with cream and mango for dessert. You honestly can never go wrong with this dessert, it is bound to make you go weak in the knees
