Restaurant Review – Crumble

Last week we had the opportunity to visit Crumble and check out their completely refurbished restaurant located on Sheikh Zayed Road. We had been to Crumble quite a few times before, and done a review there as well. Although we liked the food and found the ambience to be pretty average, we always knew that Crumble had the potential to achieve greater heights.
When we visited the newly renovated Crumble, we were awestruck by how amazing the restaurant looked. We found the décor to be a bit more refined than before as it created a much laid back vibe. Right from the lighting to the furniture, to the colors of the walls, everything has been changed for the betterment of Crumble. But we knew that it won’t just be the change in décor that would leave us impressed.
When we were handed over our menus, we knew that Crumble is definitely in it to win it. The menu, presented in the form of a large cardboard, was compact yet seeming absolutely delicious and we couldn’t wait to tuck in to food. Since we were doing a lunch tasting, we decided to opt for a few mains that seem to be Crumble’s signature.
To begin with, for drinks we opted for a Chocolate Peanut Butter Milkshake. This milkshake is definitely not for the faint hearted. It was thick, luscious and has the perfect texture. The flavor of the peanut butter was strong which added to the delightfulness of this milkshake. It might not be the healthiest option, but it is definitely a choice you will never regret.
If you’re looking for something a bit healthier, we also tried the Detox Juice which comprises of green apple, celery, cucumber, kale, lemon, parsley and spinach. This drink will definitely leave you feeling light and rejuvenated. The flavor of this drink wasn’t bitter as we were expecting it to be, but rather left a sweet aftertaste making it very enjoyable.
Moving on to our mains, we first opted for the Super Bowl Salad. This salad consisted of red quinoa, charred corn, shredded kale, pomegranate, ricotta, walnuts & Medjool dates dressed with jalapeno vinaigrette. This salad doesn’t just look pretty, but tasted as good too. A dish that is healthy and delicious at the same time is always such a win. And with this salad, there’s no doubt we’re coming back for more. There are a lot of things we loved about this salad; the sweetness of the pomegranate and dates, the saltiness of the ricotta, the crunch of the walnuts and corn and most importantly the dressing itself that added a good punch to the salad. Definitely a must have if you’re planning a visit to Crumble.
For our second main, we ordered the Braised Lamb Shank with roasted sweet potato, French beans, pumpkin seeds and sun dried tomatoes. The presentation itself for this dish will leave you mesmerized. Presented rustically in a large skillet pan, the highlight and beauty of this dish was the lamb shank itself. With flavors that leave you salivating and meat so tender it falls of the bone, this dish will definitely make you go weak in the knees. We strongly recommend this dish for people with huge appetites and lovers of meat. The sweet potato looked and tasted scrumptious, and the addition of the pumpkin seeds added a nice crunch. Definitely “Dude Food” at its best.
Lastly, for our third main we ordered the Grilled Baby Chicken with sweet potato mash, lemon and grilled vegetables. Another rustically beautiful dish, the chicken was cooked perfectly making it taste soft and juicy. This dish reminded us of the perfect Sunday Roast with wholesome flavors that satisfy each and every taste bud. The vegetables were cooked and seasoned perfectly and the sweet potato mash had the perfect texture. Although this dish might seem heavy for one person to devour, the flavors and elements of this dish make it easy to do so. Not only are you left loving your meal, but you’re also left feeling healthy and content.
To end our delicious meal, we wanted it to be on a sweet note. We tried the Fried Oreos with Ice cream. The Oreos are deep fried and served hot with a cold scoop of vanilla ice cream. Although we found this dessert to be a bit too simple, the flavors of Oreo and vanilla ice cream take us back to “cookies and cream” which made us enjoy this dessert anyway. We really hope however that Crumble expands its selection of desserts since we know it will definitely be enjoyable. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant sweet ending.
