Restaurant Review – Joes Crabshack

Last week we attended the launch of what we believe to be a Seafood Lover’s Paradise! Joe’s Crab shack located at The Dubai Mall and coincidentally near the giant fish tank, serves the best seafood in the area. The options are vast and the seafood is of premium quality and taste fresh.
We entered Joe’s Crab shack and found the vibe to be extremely positive and friendly with servers greeting you as you enter with wide smiles. The decor made us feel like we’re sitting in a relaxing and bright beach house and the restaurant was buzzing with people, adding to the vibrancy of the restaurant.
A quick glance at our menu made our mouths water. For drinks we ordered the Shark Bite and we loved the presentation of it with a test tube inserted into a rubber shark filled with grenadine which we had to pour into the drink. The drink was very quirky and refreshing.
For our appetizers, we tried the “Crazy Good Crab Dip” which was a delicious dipping sauce loaded with crab meat, cream cheese and parmesan, loaded with tortilla chips. The dip was actually “crazy good”. We loved the chunks of crab meat and the fact there were plenty of it in the dip. The combination of cream cheese with the crab is comfort food at its best, and the addition of parmesan adds to the saltiness of the dish. It’s no wonder this dish is the most popular and a crowd pleaser, definitely a must try.
For our mains we opted for the “Grilled Malibu Shrimp” which is grilled shrimp glazed in homemade Malibu coconut sauce, topped with mango pico and served with pico rice. The shrimps were grilled perfectly and had a good char on it. We loved the sweetness incorporated into this dish due to the addition of coconut and mango; however the flavors weren’t too overpowering.
We also tried the Ragin Cajun Steam pot which is an enormous bucket of Dungeness Crab, Queen Crab, Shrimps and Beef sausage served with corn on the cob , all marinated in a Cajun flavored rub will leave you craving for more! The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly, and we also had a server demonstrating how to crack open a crab perfectly, making it really easy for us to savor.
To end our seafood extravaganza we tried a dessert never introduced in Dubai before. Their Campfire S’mores dessert is layered with digestive biscuits to add crunch, moist chocolate cake, thick and creamy chocolate fudge, toasted marshmallows on the top and garnished with melted kinder chocolate. This dessert was perfect on soo many levels, and make us go weak in the knees. The moist cake was gooey and crunch of the biscuits had a perfect texture, making us devour this dessert until we licked the bowl clean.
