Event: Taste Of Italy Valentines Day Preview

If you are amongst the minuscule segment of the Dubai population that hasn’t already got their Valentine’s Day plans sorted, fear not, we are here to the rescue!
Plan your romantic dinner at Taste of Italy by Heinz Beck located in Al Wasl and you can thank us later. If good, authentic and enriching Italian food is your forte, then the four course Italian feast specially designing for Valentines Day is bound to wow you!
We were absolutely delighted to have sampled the menu beforehand just so you know what a wonderful time we had. Also if you’re vegetarian, exceptions can be made as per your preference. Bingo!
We started off with a non-alcoholic Bellini, and then carried on to our first course which was an Antipasto Misto of some classic Italian appetizers. We loved the fried mini calzone stuffed with mozzarella and tomato, the fried saffron rice ball was aromatic and rich in flavor and the deep fried rice and eggplant ball had a definitive texture and flavor that was very pleasing. Although the platter comprised of everything being fried, the portions are relatively small. Hence, you don’t end up being absolutely stuffed. We would however have preferred a salad on the side to lighten up the course.
For our next course we each were brought a generous serving of Ravioli Ricotta E Spinaci Salsa Di Pomopodoro E Cream Di Parmigiano. We absolutely savored this dish. Loved the extreme thinness of the pasta and the generous stuffing of the ricotta and spinach. The tomato sauce and parmigiano cream were served in perfect proportions and complemented each other beautifully! Making it a perfectly balanced dish.
For our third course, we had the Straccetti Di Manzo All’Aceto Balsamico which is Braised beef with balsamic vinegar served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The flavor of the jus was rich and velvety – which we loved. The mashed potato was smooth as well and the beef was tender. Presentation wise however, we wished the beef wasn’t sliced. Overall, a simple and delicious dish.
One of us being vegetarian on the day of our tasting (for religious reasons), we opted for the Capricciosa Pizza topped with artichokes, mushrooms and egg. The pizza was extremely crisp and thin however we wished the egg wasn’t hard boiled and shredded over the pizza, instead cooked sunny side up in the middle. The artichokes were beautiful cooked and the mushroom sauce was to die for!
Finally, you cant end Valentine’s Day without a good sugar high. And even better, when its a good dose of chocolate. Fondants have somehow represented the humble chocolate beautifully no matter where we sampled it. And the Dark Chocolate Fondant with berries and vanilla ice cream is nothing less than impeccable. Perfect way to end the romantic time of the year.
