Restaurant Review – Urban Seafood

Its the weekend! Yay! And if you’re like us i.e. people who indulge in weekend feasts fit for baby elephants, then this review might be of some interest to you.
A few weeks ago we visited Urban Seafood, a funky new eatery located at the Ibn Battuta Mall that’s all about fresh, flavorsome and simply delicious seafood.
Lets begin with the menu. When it comes to restaurants that usually focus solely on seafood, we notice that the dishes on the menu are pretty limited. You usually are presented with a choice of how you’d like your seafood cooked and what sauce to use, and thats about it. At Urban Seafood, its not the case. We’re talking about close to forty seafood items to chose from, ultimately making the choice so much more harder.
Luckily for us (and everyone else), the prices are decent enough for multiple visits. The staff too are more than willing to help you make your choices and are at your beck and call whenever you need them.

We started off with the Cheesy Half Shell Mussels for appetizers which are six oven baked mussels topped with melted cheese and sweet chilli sauce. We found that the dish was a bit heavy handed with the portion of cheese used as it almost hid the flavor of the mussels. We usually never associate seafood with cheese, however this dish was surprisingly tasty.
The Sweet and Spicy Chilli Pops were definitely the best among the appetizers we had. It tasted alot similar to the “dynamite shrimps” that are so popular at PF Changs and the quantity was impressive too. A must have!
The Sweet Potato Tots which are golden breaded sweet potato balls that are deep fried to perfection goes perfectly well with your mains or just as a small snack. It was soft and sweet inside and crunchy outside. Delicious!
We also indulged in a bucket of Fresh Mussels and Shrimp which are 350 grams of mussels and 250 grams of shrimp drenched in your choice of sauce. We chose the creamy lemon butter sauce since it was the most popular choice, and after tasting it we knew why. The shrimp and mussels were cooked beautifully but the sauce played a significant role in elevating the flavors of the seafood making you continuously dig into the bucket until empty.
The highlight of our entire meal however was the Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich that will most definitely get you weak in your knees. The cheese went amazingly well with the perfectly cooked lobster. And we were surprised with the generous portion of lobster too! This is the first time we devoured a “lobster grilled cheese” and its definitely not going to be the last.
For dessert, we had the Lotus Choco Bites which are chocolate chunks, topped with vanilla icream, crushed lotus biscuit and lotus sauce. Unfortunately, they didn’t have lotus so they used caramel sauce instead. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t disappointed since Lotus in a dessert in something we really look forward to. Nevertheless, the cake, icecream and caramel sauce combination on a sizzling plate was delicious.
We also had the “Cake In A Jar” that was uniquely and beautifully presented. We loved the fluffy and soft sponge of the cake and the caramelized nuts that gave an amazing crunch to the dessert. It probably didn’t “wow” us but we enjoyed it anyway.
