Cooking with Chef Jason Atherton

Last week we welcomed Chef Jason Atherton back in Dubai at Marina Social – his first venture in Dubai. With the most enjoyable company, delectable food and Chef Jason by our side, it’s quite evident that we had a pretty amazing night!

Chef Jason Atherton – A highly commendable and inspiring chef :
Known for being a young (and charming) Michelin Star chef, Jason has not wasted any time in leaving his mark in the culinary world. After working with some of the best chefs in the world – Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay to name a few, and launching over 15 restaurants all over the globe, Chef Jason has mastered the art of producing some of the most exceptional, flavorful and artistic dishes that are unparalleled to any of the other celebrity chef restaurants we’ve been to in a while.

Marina Social – Not just your ordinary Michelin – starred chef restaurant :
Nestled gorgeously at the Dubai Marina, Marina Social has easily bagged the top spot for being one of our favorite Date Night restaurants in Dubai. If you fancy simple yet delicious food that somehow manages to gradually blow your mind away with every mouthful, then look no further. Strategically placed with the most mesmeric views of the Marina and powered by some skilful cooking, it’s no wonder Marina Social manages to bewilder and impress even the most analytical of guests.

An Exclusive Dinner with Intercontinental Group of Hotels and Chef Atherton:
As we were done with dinner and on our way back home, the exquisite food and charming company was all we could talk about. We savored a palatable four course meal comprising of signature dishes served at Marina Social. We started off the First Course with a very popular dish called “Social Dog” which according to us is a refined version of the humble hotdog. The juicy and flavorful Duck and Foie Gras sausage that is enfolded in a delicately soft brioche bread and dressed with caramelized onions tasted delicious and texturally pleasing. Another signature at Marina Social is the Italian Beef Tomato that is stuffed with Burrata and dressed with 25 years aged balsamic. We’ve relished quite a few Burrata dishes before but nothing that has been so ingeniously presented; absolutely blew our minds!

For our second course we tried the Duck Leg Agnolotti with White Onion Puree and Duck Crumble and Potato Gnocchi with BBQ Veal Short Rib and a Prawn and Tarragon Bisque. The Agnolotti definitely stood out for us. We loved how thin the pasta was and the generous filling that was packed with a strong flavor of duck.

Our Third Course comprised of Hot Smoked Salmon, Cauliflower Cheese, Spring Truffle, Black Onyx Beef Rib-Eye with Confit Garlic and Peppercorn Sauce. The star of the entire course definitely had to be the beautifully cooked Salmon that filled the table with the most gorgeous aroma as soon as the cloches were lifted along with String Beans infused with Truffle – delicious!

For dessert, we couldn’t make up our minds as to which dessert we loved more – The Greek Yoghurt Mousse with Granola, Raspberry and Lemongrass or The Rhubarb and Custard Soufflé.  Both the desserts were absolutely light, airy, perfectly sweet, aesthetically appealing and of course – scrumptious!

Masterclass with the man himself:
The next morning, we headed back to Marina Social for a private Masterclass with Chef Jason Atherton where he taught us how to master some signature and popular dishes from the menu. Before we began, we started off sitting on a long table alongside some of Dubai’s best bloggers and Chef Jason and indulged in some pleasurable conversation to go with our tea and coffee. It was at this moment where we came to absorb the sheer modesty of Chef Jason’s character, and we also learned about his deep passion and determination to succeed in what he does. Truly inspiring!
During our masterclass we were taught how to make the perfect Goats Cheese Churros, Pizzas, Soufflé and Apple Tarte Tatin along with the help of Marina Social Chef Patron Tristin Farmer and Sous Chef Jamie Doe who taught us how easy it is to make simple, humble and wholesome food by using quality ingredients.
