About Caramel Abu Dhabi:
Located within the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, lies Caramel, a fabulously chic restaurant and lounge that brings world-class boutique dining and entertainment to Abu Dhabi. As you walk into Caramel, prepare to be wow’ed by the lavish and tasteful interiors of the restaurant. There’s something about the dimly set lighting and dark wooden hues of the restaurant that provokes a warm and relaxed vibe at the restaurant. Another point worth mentioning about Caramel is their service that is impeccable (even at their Dubai branch). Perfect for a celebratory dinner or just casual romantic night out.
As we glanced through the menu, we noticed that the menu hasn’t been updated (or modified) since our previous visit two years ago. But since there were a lot of options in the menu and we aren’t regulars at Caramel, it didn’t really matter to us. We started off with our starters which included the King Crab Tacos with Ceviche Sauce and Cilantro. The tacos were generously filled with fresh crab that added a clean yet delicate flavor. We enjoyed the ceviche sauce as well, although we would’ve preferred a spicy mayo sauce to complement the crab better and add more depth.
Next, we tried the TNT Shrimp – one of the most popular dishes at Caramel and rightly so. To begin with, we loved the presentation of this starter which consisted of enormously large shrimp stacked elegantly in a martini glass. We also relished the Spicy Japanese Mayo that coated the shrimp and added depth of flavor. And finally, we loved how those shrimps were fried to golden crisp perfection, adding a beautiful texture to the dish.
For our mains, we ordered the Seared Chilean Sea Bass with Rock Shrimp Risotto, Lobster Broth and Tomato and Basil Tapenade. If you love seafood then this dish is definitely for you! All the elements on dish work harmoniously well together in terms of flavors and textures. The hero of this dish would have to be the Chilean Sea Bass that was cooked faultlessly and flaked effortlessly.
We also tried the Kobe Beef Sliders served in a soft brioche with Aged Cheddar and Balsamic Onion. The sliders were definitely not the best we’ve had, but they sure did come close. Those tender and juicy sliders melt instantly once you bite into them, and leave you wanting more!
When it came to desserts, we tried the Butterscotch Bomb with Caramel and Pine Nut Cookies. Unfortunately, this dessert didnt do much for us in terms of presentation, taste or texture. The texture of the dessert was a bit too grainy and one dimensional and the cookies didn’t taste fresh.
However the Baked Alaska on the other hand definitely blew us away. This dessert comprises layers of Sponge Cake, Fresh Strawberries and Strawberry Ice Cream, all coated over with meringue. The presentation was fabulous and so were the flavors (although if we have to be super critical – the sponge cake was visible and not coated with meringue as it should’ve been). We’ve had a few Baked Alaskas in UAE, and this one’s definitely the best.
