Our serene and Scenic stay in the heart of Downtown Dubai:
A trip to Dubai isn’t a place where you do things by halves. It’s all about the big skyscrapers, big yachts and big budgets. Needless to say, if you’re planning a holiday to one of the most luxurious cities in the world – Dubai, you want to make sure you want to stay at a hotel equally as lavish as the location it’s in. Which brings us to the mesmerizing Palace Hotel, a hotel where classic themes meet Arabian traditions.
Located at one of the most vibrant and happening spots in Dubai, the location of the Palace Hotel puts it within easy reach of the airports.
Via Public/Private Taxi: The Palace Hotel is only a 20 minute drive from Dubai International Airport (it will cost you roughly 40-50 dirhams) and a 40 minute drive from Al Maktoum International Airport (it will cost around 80 – 90 dirhams). You could use the public taxis that are lined up at airports or you could coordinate with the concierge team and arrange for a pick and drop service to the hotel.
Although The Palace Hotel possesses the most stunning landscaping we’ve ever come across, it’s also blessed with the most dazzling and central location in the city. Perfectly located on a spectacular lake overlooking Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building and offering prime views of the Dubai Fountain, the hotel is beautifully proportioned with an enticing Middle Eastern theme.
Nearby Tourist Destinations Include: The Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa (world’s tallest building), Souk Al Bahar, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Creek, Ski Dubai, Dubai Museum, Mall of the Emirates etc.
Convenient Stores Include: nearby Pharmacies like Super Care, Boots etc. , ATMs/Banks like Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD, Mashreq Bank etc, nearby Money Exchanges like Wall Street Exchange, Al Ansari Exchange etc., Supermarkets include Al Maya Supermarket, Waitrose etc.
As we stepped into the breathtaking property, we were in awe of the Arabesque architectural features and captivated by the elegant charm of the hotel. As we proceeded to the reception for check in, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming management of the hotel. We sat down with Stacey McMurtrie, the Marketing and Communications Manager and Fabrice Ducry, the General Manager of the Palace Hotel who were kind enough to give us an insight into the history and culture of the hotel.
The Palace Downtown Dubai offers 242 guest rooms and suites, all featuring balconies with either Burj Khalifa, Burj Lake or Old Town views. After a very well welcome, we were shown to our suite by one of the friendly hotel staff. We spent our day and night at the enormous Palace Suite that’s stretched across 105 sq m. The suite is not just luxurious in its own distinctive way, but it also protruded a sense of warmth and intimacy which we absolutely adored. The suite comes with a separate and spacious living room, a cozy bedroom and a ginormously elegant bathroom.
Special Features of the Suite Include:
– Complementary airport transportation
– 24 hour check in/check out
– Complimentary wireless internet access
– Study table with stationary
– In room iPad
– Complimentary tea and coffee facilities
– Luxurious toiletries etc
Standing on the balcony overlooking the beautiful lake, the Dubai Opera and the majestic Burj Khalifa felt like one of those “pinch me” moments. The calmness and serenity of gazing at the view is an exhilarating feeling that cannot be put into words.
Fitness & Leisure:
We spent a good couple of hours of our day working out at the hotel’s state of the art, 24 hour Fitness Center and lounging by their 25 meter long massive pool while gazing at the Burj Khalifa. Bliss!
Afternoon Tea Room Service:
If you’re a regular reader of our staycation posts, it should be pretty obvious the extent to which we love our afternoon tea. Building on Dubai’s cosmopolitan culinary landscape, “Al Bayt” located at the lobby level serves the most decadent afternoon tea with customary Arabian inspired treats. We indulged in the “Palace Afternoon Tea” that offers sweets and savories from the West paired with flavors from the East.
Dinner at Thiptara:
After a romantic and picturesque stroll along the hotel, we then headed to what we believe is one of the most romantic restaurants we’ve ever come across. We consider Thai cuisine to be an aphrodisiac in its own charm; and when you pair that with the most splendid views of the Dubai Fountain, prepare to fall in love with this city all over again!
Apart from the most scrumptious and authentic feast we savored, it was the kind hospitality of the management and staff of Thiptara that made us feel warm and welcomed. We were offered a table by the giant glass doors that overlooked the fountain and the experience was surreal to say the least.
We started off our dinner with an array of starters which include Chor Muang Sai Talay (Steamed thai dimsum with scallops, prawn, cuttlefish and siracha sauce), Poh Piah Phed (Duck spring rolls with water chestnut and sweet chilli sauce) and Yum Som (pomelo salad with tiger prawns, grilled chicken breast, crispy coconut and tamarind sauce). The flavors and textures in each of these starters transported us back to the streets of Thailand where simple and wholesome cooking never tasted better! We particularly loved the dim sums for its unique presentation and color which is basically derived from the Blue Pea flower.
For mains, we tried the Phar Char Hoy Shell (spicy sauteed scallops with thai herbs and oyster sauce) and Gaeng Kiew Wan Gai (Chicken in green curry with eggplant and sweet basil leaves). We loved the green curry in particular for its richness, spice and authenticity in flavor.
Finally for dessert, we were served an assortment of authentic Thai desserts, each unique in its presentation, texture and taste. We absolutely adored the Thab Thim Grob which is a refreshing and delicious chestnut and coconut milk sweet dish.
Breakfast at Ewaan:
Our breakfast at Ewaan made us feel like royalty. With flamboyant and luxurious decor the restaurant serves as perfect spot to kickstart your day. The best part about the spread at Ewaan is the fact that the buffet caters to everyone’s needs – be it health-freaks or just super indulgent foodies like ourselves. Make sure to try their Eggs Benedicts and fluffy waffles that are made to order.
Stepping into the Palace Hotel Downtown Dubai feels like something out of a film. There’s no doubt we’re coming back for more; there’s a strong positive magnetic attraction that’s pulling us back to The Palace. It’s safe to say that this hotel definitely makes it to our top 3 hotels of all time!
