Cafe Review – Fortnum and Mason

For us, there’s nothing like an indulgent session of Afternoon Tea where one can sip on some of the finest tea, gorge on some delicious food while gaze at the magnificent views of the tallest building in the world. Yes, you can find all this and more at none other than one of the most classiest boutiques in town – Fortnum and Mason.
About Fortnum and Mason:
Established in 1707 in England, Fortnum’s has been recognized all over the world for its premium quality food and elegant settings. About two years ago, the London institution opened its first store outside the UK and luckily for us, Dubai was the franchise’s ultimate choice. As you step into Fortnum, you are bound to be mesmerized by the sheer refinement of the restaurant and rightfully so since all of the design was done by Fortnum’s UK-Based design agency and the menus are an edit of what you would expect to find in the London store.
Afternoon Tea & High Tea at Fortnum & Mason:
On a blissful weekday afternoon, we headed to the highly commended store to see if it lives up to the hype of serving the best afternoon tea in town. We decided to try the Afternoon Tea and High Tea at Fortnum’s with the only difference being the additional main course that’s served in the High Tea package.
For the Afternoon Tea, we adored the finger sandwiches in particular that tasted delicious and fresh. The cucumber with mint butter, rare roast beef with gherkin and caper dressing, coronation chicken and Fortnum’s smoked salmon sandwich were all delightfully appetizing and tasted unique in its own flair. Best part? You can have seconds (or thirds) of your favorite sandwiches.
For the High Tea as well, we chose the Beetroot and Goats Cheese Tatin that was cooked perfectly and had a strong tinge of goats cheese (which might seem overpowering for some).
We loved the selection of desserts and scones that were presented in both our spreads. The scones were probably the best we’ve had; they were crumbly, melted in our mouths and taste perfect with clotted cream and Fortnum’s in-house jams! Another feature we loved about the Afternoon and High Tea was the choice of slice from a selection of Fortnum’s signature cakes. We decided to opt for a slice of the infamous Victoria Sponge Cake and Battenberg Cake. Needless to say, one of the best cakes we’ve ever had where the flavors were spot on and the sponges were lighter than air!
