Traditional meets contemporary at Karak House:
As straightforward as the name of this restaurant might seem, Karak House offers more than just a cup of tea. With strong Middle Eastern influences evident in all their dishes, Karak House aims to promote traditional local cuisine in a modernist way. Designed with glass doors, Arabic-inspired patterns, and warm tones, this restaurant boasts a positive yet tranquil vibe that’s absolutely refreshing during this time of the year.
A glance through the menu and we knew exactly what we wanted to order. We started off with Shakshuka, a much-loved Middle Eastern breakfast dish that is slowly paving its way through most breakfast menus in Dubai. The Shakshuka comprised of perfectly runny baked eggs, braised beef, smoked aubergine and pureed tomatoes. The flavors were prominent but not too overpowering, making the eggs the hero of the dish (something that lacks in most Shakshukas we’ve tried). We also enjoyed the addition of the toasted nuts and eggplant since it added a delicious smokiness to the dish.
We also tried the Bait Wa Tamat that comprised of scrambled eggs, tomato, onion, chili, and cumin. It tasted good but nothing extraordinary. The eggs were cooked well, but the flavors of the dish seemed very standard.
We also tried the Hummus Platter that was served with beetroot, date avocado, muhammara, baba ghanoush. A simple and healthy dish that was presented beautifully.
For mains, we tried the Karak House Machboos that was delightful! The machboos was served beautifully with micro greens and topped with a ginormous slice of fried kingfish which was cooked to flaky perfection.
We also tried the Zesty Shish Tawook that was the pleasantly cooked, tasting juicy and tender. Although the flavors weren’t punchy enough, the portion size was impressive.
For dessert, we tried the Chocolate Lugaimat that would be perfect for a chocolate-lover! The twist on ordinary Lugaimat was well executed and a generous dollop of chocolate sauce adds to the sinfully good flavor.
Finally, we tried Nutella Paratha that included three fluffy yet crunchy Parathas generously filled with Nutella. As simple as this dessert might look, the taste was absolutely delicious!
