There’s something about Victorian-themed restaurants that enthuses us. We’re not sure if it’s the vintage ambiance or the old-fashioned concept that magnetizes us like a moth to a flame, but nevertheless, it will always be a delight to dine at such a graceful yet homely place. One such restaurant that has been a firm favorite in our connoisseur books is Shakespeare and Co – a place that offers breathtaking settings, delicious food and warm hospitality.
We’re not going to lie, it’s been a while since we’ve visited this charming space last, but the food was as delicious as it was when we stepped into Shakespeare for the first time.
To begin with, we had one of the most popular dishes in the menu – Baby Chicken! It definitely bags its spot in one of the best chicken dishes we’ve had! Served with Grilled Vegetables, Roasted Potatoes, Lemon Confit and Rosemary Sauce, the dish may seem simple, but the flavors were bang-on perfection! The chicken itself was juicy and tender, and the lemon butter wasn’t overpoweringly strong, rather subtle enough to complement the chicken perfectly!
We also tried their Seared Salmon Fillet with Grilled Eggplant Puree, Fruit and Vegetable Tartar and Hollandaise sauce. As odd as this may seem, the combination of salmon and eggplant seemed to work together beautifully. The presentation of this dish was spot on, and the crispy skin of the salmon got us weak in the knees!
We ended our meal with some of Shakespeare’s signature pastries. The Carrot Cake definitely stood out for us! It was dense yet moist, and there were chunks of carrot in each bite, which we loved! The eggless chocolate cake was decadent as well, however we wished there was more of that yum chocolate ganache!
