Hotel Review – Hotel Banke, Paris

A hotel that has been aesthetically blessed with traditional Parisian exteriors and avant-garde interiors, Hotel Banke is an opulent and stylish find in the famous Opera neighborhood of beautiful Paris! The hotel occupies the premises of a former bank headquarters, which was then turned into the Banke Hotel in 2009, and hence protrudes a very stately facade in the vicinity.

Art Museum or Lobby?
Known for its edgy characteristics, this turn-of-the-twentieth-century building is the first French property of the Spanish Derby Hotel Collection and hence has a distinct Spanish flair as you walk in. With mosaic-tiled floors, shades of cream and deep rich plum, a dramatically long gold sofa and a stunning round glass domed lobby that enables sunlight to seep through, the foyer at the Banke is very distinctive from the other lobbies we’ve been to. The service upon arrival was top-notch, with the staff being very fluent in English (such a blessing when in France!) and very attentive, with the check-in process being prompt. If we could pick out one distinct feature of the Banke property, it would be the beautiful aroma of Frankincense that slithers through the entire lobby and corridors.

Two days at the former Bank Headquarters:
Our stay was at the executive room, decorated with simplistically modern furnishing and a view of the Rue La Fayette. We found the room a bit too small, but contemporarily stylish nevertheless with its high ceilings, maroon curtains, and leather couch. Loved the dark marble bathrooms that were well appointed with signature toiletries, robes and slippers. Simple touches like their signature ‘Welcome Rose’ added to the Banke feel and made us feel very welcome.

Breakfast at the Banke Restaurant:
We had our breakfast at the Banke restaurant, which is located at the lower level and is adorned with hues of whites, creating a very warm feeling of stillness and simplicity (a contrast to the rest of the hotel’s tone). The breakfast had a buffet set up with the main items like eggs, waffles, and french toast is made to order. The hotel was also sweet enough to offer champagne and a tray of delectable sweets to celebrate our engagement the night before!

Our Verdict:
The contemporary art displays around the hotel and in the rooms create a very graceful atmosphere. The cost of staying at the Banke Hotel, after having being rated 5 stars, is pretty affordable and worth every penny for the quality of service offered here. The location of the hotel is easily accessible to the rest of the city, with a subway station being only 200m away. The best part about Banke Hotel is the fact that it’s conveniently located close to most of Paris’ landmarks, however, far away from the touristic clamor.
