Hotel Review – Le Richemond, Geneva

How often does one get to say they celebrated their 25th birthday in Switzerland? Of course, the Swiss do. But for people like us, living in the bustling cities of the Middle East, surrounded by the exertive lifestyles of the wearied residents hustling day in and day out, a birthday in Switzerland sounds like a dream! Luckily for us, we got to celebrate this very special occasion at the gorgeous properties of Le Richemond, Geneva, and before we knew it, this hotel had already felt like home. There are some hotels that you associate yourself with for their luxury, some for their amenities, and some for their service. But there are very few that tick all the boxes and ensure your return back to their hotel on your next holiday. Needless to say, Le Richemond is one such hotel.

A Luxury Experience in the Heart of Geneva:
Beautifully located on the banks of Lake Geneva, Le Richemond has been welcoming its esteemed guests since 1875. Over the years, they’ve welcomed some of the most distinguished guests including Charlie Chaplin, Louis Armstrong, Sophia Loren and Rita Hayworth, to name a few, and we’re glad to be a part of the hotel’s well-regarded clientele.

A Royal Welcome:
We Ubered our way to the hotel from the airport (which according to us is the most convenient way to get to the hotel) and were greeted by two hotel porters who to our surprise, welcomed us by our names, and assisted us to the reception desk. The fact that they knew who we were, added that extra touch to making our arrival into Le Richemond all the more special. The check-in process was swift, with the staff being super friendly, well versed with the English language, and knowledgeable of the city’s whereabouts and transportation. They were also kind enough to offer us two public transport passes to easily commute around the city.

A Stay at the Lake View Junior Suite:
Long story short, you NEED to stay here for the absolutely breathtaking view of the Lake Geneva and fountain. Of course, the room is exuberantly luxurious in all its glory, with a stylish contemporary look, hues of dark wood and blue, and a gorgeous marble bathroom that’s fit for a king or queen. But let’s not kid ourselves, nothing can take away from that glorious view of the Lake Geneva. It’s the perfect interpretation of a lavish European suite. Le Richemond was also kind enough to treat us to the most perfect ‘Birthday Breakfast’ in the comfort of our own room and that French Toast – BEST EVER!!
Suite Highlights: complimentary Wi-Fi, one bedroom and one bathroom, LCD tv in the bedroom and bathroom, Beltrami linen, toiletries by L’Occitane en Provence, writing desk.

Birthday Dinner at Le Jardin:
Popularly known for being the ‘Ambassadors of The Geneva Region’ and winning multiple awards, a dinner at Le Jardin is a must if you want to enjoy truly fresh, local produce paired with impeccable service. Their head chef Philippe Bourrel promotes French cuisine using contemporary styles of plating while bringing light to local produce. Make sure to dine at the ‘La Terrasse’ which is their beautifully cozy terrace facing the Brunswick Gardens and Lake Geneva. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a quiet, romantic setting for two or even an intimate lunch with family and friends. We absolutely demolished their Fillet of Fera freshly fished from Lake Geneva, served with chanterelles and fresh almonds. The experience of relishing this dish was surreal – you could literally taste the lake in that fish. We were told that the restaurant has their very own designated fisherman who delivers fresh catch to them every day. Super impressive. But obviously, the highlight would have to be ‘The Swiss Apricot’ – a signature dessert from the hotel’s very own pastry chef. It looks just like an apricot, but trust us it’s way more complex than it looks. The concoctions of flavors and textures that complemented the key ingredient, the apricot, was brilliantly executed. A perfect way to celebrate a birthday dinner.

Our Verdict:
When you take everything into consideration – location, brand, comfort, and service, it’s no doubt Le Richemond tops the list of some of the best hotel’s in Geneva.
Part of The Dorchester Collection, a stay in one of the most well-appointed, luxurious hotels in Geneva – Le Richemond, is enough to create memories that will last a lifetime.
